OHIP+ UpdateSubmitted by Pointbreak on July 9th, 2018
You may have heard about the recent announcement that the Ontario government is making changes to the OHIP+ program that offers prescription drug coverage for youth under 25 in Ontario. Originally the program that launched January 1, 2018 had the government as first payor for drugs covered under their formulary.
Early statistics indicated that the OHIP+ program was helping reduce drug spend by around 3.5% on group programs.
As of late June, the Ontario government indicated that they will now be second payor for any youth covered under a private health plan such as an employee benefit's extended health plan. This means that most prescription drug claims for dependents will still be claimed on plan sponsored group plans.
