Privacy Policy
As of January 1, 2004, Pointbreak Consulting Group Ltd. became compliant with the British Columbia legislation concerning the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). RIM Consulting historically has demonstrated a dedication to the spirit of this legislation far in advance of it’s adoption.
The enclosed information outlines the processes and procedures used in the gathering of data and information for the sole purpose of providing service to corporations for employee benefits, and personal information for employees that terminate from organizations.

Principles
Pointbreak actively discourages the use of individual employee names in the collection data from corporations, except when necessary for the performance of a specified service.
Pointbreak actively discourages the use of unsecured facsimile technology.
Pointbreak encourages the use of unique identities vs. individual names to offer maximum privacy protection. In applying this practice at the corporate level, Pointbreak is unable to identify individual employees.
1) To Whom Does This Policy Apply?
Pointbreak Consulting Group Ltd. is a consulting company specializing in human resources and employee benefits. The Privacy Policy applies to all clients. Clients are defined as:
- Corporate Clients (including prospective, active and terminated) where Pointbreak provides human resource or employee benefits consulting. Pointbreak interfaces with specified staff in dealing with ongoing services and advice.
- Active Employees working within a corporate client. Pointbreak requests employees direct their queries through the specified staff for requests. Alternatively, the corporate client may provide specific direction to Pointbreak to deal directly with a non-specified employee.
- Terminated employees of a corporate client. With consent from the corporate client, Pointbreak provides post employment services in regard to individual’s post employment benefits, and if requested will provide information and recommendations on the individual’s situation or recommend other professionals to assist the terminated employee.
2) What Personal Information Is Collected?
Pointbreak may collect individual information for the purpose of, but not limited to:
- Competitive tendering of employee benefits
- Renewal management and analysis
- Assistance with individual claim management
- Production of employee benefit or retirement statements
- Post employment benefit management
Employee demographic data may contain the following:
- Name
- Age
- Sex
- Birth date
- Earnings
- Marital Status
3) How Is Personal Information Collected, Used and Maintained
Any and all information collected is used only for its intended purpose. Personal information is prohibited from use in individual marketing and selling activities.
In the course its work Pointbreak collects demographic data from corporate clients. The information may be forwarded to insurance companies and or other providers for the purpose of transacting business. If said data is received by Pointbreak with individual employee names included, the individual names will be purged from the file, prior to distribution to providers.
When Pointbreak receives personal information to secure coverage data it is held in the confines of Pointbreak’s offices.
In the event that Pointbreak Consulting is unable to secure coverage, information is held for a reasonable and customary period and is either returned to the prospective client or destroyed.
Claims and renewal information are provided in aggregate by line of benefit to Pointbreak by insurers. Pointbreak cannot determine medical information related to individuals.
In the event Pointbreak no longer provides service to a client, the electronic data is purged and the hard copy is held for seven years in a Pointbreak office or secured off site storage.
4) To Whom Does Pointbreak Disclose Personal Information?
Personal information may be provided to insurance companies and other providers that are in the business of offering financial services benefits to corporations. Third parties engaged by Pointbreak to provide product and services are required by the federal and provincial Privacy Acts.
5) How Can Employees View Personal Information?
Employees of corporate clients are directed to access information held by Pointbreak through specified staff at the corporate client level. If information is inaccurate or incomplete the specified staff person will contact Pointbreak who will amend records and notify applicable third parties. Alternatively, the corporate client may provide specific direction to Pointbreak (consent form attached) to deal directly with a non-specified employee.
6) How Quickly Will Pointbreak Respond to a Written Request?
Pointbreak will make every effort to respond to a request within 10 business days of receipt of an authorized written request.
7) Is There a Fee For Accessing Information?
Access to personal information is free of charge. However, charges will apply if the request for transcription, reproduction or transmission of such information is necessary
8) Who Has Access to Personal Information at Pointbreak?
Pointbreak employees who are assigned to specific clients.
