Quebec Introduces the VRSP - Voluntary Retirement Savings Plan
The Quebec government tabled its 2012 budget, which included detailed provisions for the voluntary retirement savings plan (VRSP)—Quebec’s version of the Pooled Registered Pension Plan (PRPP).
While VRSPs are similar to the federal government’s proposed Pooled Registered Pension Plan (PRPP), the planned legislation contains one major difference: unlike PRPPs, VRSPs will be mandatory for employers.
All Quebec companies with five or more employees with at least one year of uninterrupted service, and who do not have a retirement savings plan in place, will be required to offer a VRSP for employees. Employers will not be required to contribute; however, if they do, those contributions will be tax-deductible and will not be subject to Quebec payroll taxes. Employers have until Jan. 1, 2015 to implement a VRSP.

• Effective October 24, Desjardins plan members have access to a new secure website. Plan members will be able to submit their claims for vision care and for services provided by healthcare professionals. Plan members will also be able to update dependent information, if allowed by their plan. They will have access to key information about their personal coverage and will be able to print a temporary payment card.
• Equitable Life of Canada has Launched Single Screen Enrolment (SSE) - simplifies plan administration and prevents incomplete or missing information.
• Encon - announced enhancement to their Online Health & Dental Claims Centre - allows plan members to submit their own claims directly online.
• Shepell-fgi - offering Employee Assistance Program (EAP) support through video counselling.
