Great West Life has advised that plan members who use marijuana won’t automatically be considered smokers on insurance applications, unless they also use tobacco, e-cigarettes or nicotine products. The release can be viewed here:
Effective February 21, 2017, Great West Life will be changing the process they follow when adjudicating second-payer co-ordination of benefits (COB) on drug claims. These changes are in line with trends across the industry, with Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) COB guidelines, and with our current processes for handling health, dental and first payer drug claims.
Compassionate care leave is available to employees who provide care for a family member with a life-threatening illness.
On January 3, 2016, the federal government made changes that extend the time period of compassionate care leave. These changes have been reflected in both the Employment Insurance Act and the Canada Labour Code. Read the news release here:
